Biography
"My driving force as an artist is the quest for spirituality. I usually start with no clear concept in mind with cut-out elements from art, religion, biology, and history books, moving them around until an archetypal imprint of the inner mechanics of the soul suddenly appears. The images are visual recordings of the complex processes inside our psyche. "
Andrej Glusgold was born in 1968 in Chisinau/Moldova (USSR). He graduated from the University of Arts in Bremen. He has been living in Berlin since 1996 where he teaches as a professor of photography at the UE- University of Applied Sciences Europe since 2011. His work includes photography, drawing and poetry.

Glusgold is influenced by Shamanism, outsider art, religious and folk art. His driving force as an artist is the quest for spirituality. He begins his process with cut-out elements from art, religion, and history books, moving them around until an archetypal imprint of the inner mechanics of the soul suddenly appears. The images are visual recordings of the complex processes inside our psyche.

He believes the physical world is a projection of invisible forces, and the latest theories of quantum physics state the same. Creating new forms brings the artist closer to life and nature. It is a magical process like alchemy, a sublimation of fears, struggles and delights into aesthetic objects.

In 2021, Andrej Glusgold was part of the group exhibition Heads full of Poetry, presented at Simard Bilodeau Contemporary in Los Angeles.
